Visit stakeholders for mentoring
How we work? We divided the students into three groups. On google drive we have two important documents for the organization. A descriptive word of the activities we are carrying out and an excel with the time schedule. Both documents are updated as the project develops.
Today, we attended three seminars, below are the topics addressed:
– Pulchra project, Agenda2030 and the sustainable development of the territory (see the youtube link and the “Pulchra Introduction and sustainable development of the territory.pdf”). Professor Maurizia Sigura of the University of Udine (UNIUD).
– What is biodiversity? what are ecosystem services and what are those related to urban green areas? Photosynthesis, transpiration, sensors to measure temperature and humidity. how to recognize plants? how to estimate the height of the plants? – Introduction to protected crops and a first knowledge of cultivation substrates, plants nursery. Costantino Cattivello (ERSA FVG).

– Science Teams formation.
The students active in the project are divided into 3 groups: communication group (students of agriculture and mechanics curricula), garden group (students of the agriculture curriculum) arduino group (students of agriculture and mechanics curricula).
– 25th January 2021. The first Pulchra workshop.
During the online event, the City Science Teams presented their project idea. With a view to sustainable resource management, they will focus on how to optimize water management through studies on soil-plant relationships and how to use technology in favor of sustainability. On March 29, 30 and 31, the “communication Science Team” partecipated to hackathon activities: a Challenge Based Learning laboratory on the communication of scientific initiatives. Students had the opportunity to learn “how communicate science” in an active way: student working groups (Teams), mentors and communication experts. This occasion was an opportunity to interact and work together with the other schools of the italian Pulchra network. Each of the 5 teams developed a project idea, for more details see the following link for the published press release, and see presentations of Teams in the “Outcome” section of Science Reporters Activities.
29th October 2021. Pulchra workshop: end of the first city challenge
The workshop was organised in presence and was also accessible remotely. Students involved in the project presented their work on handling an efficient use of waters reducing wastes. They explained the learning processes which started from theory on plant-soil interactions and water requirements for plant growth. Then, they moved to practice arranging flowerbeds and automated systems for irrigation while monitoring soil humidity and temperature using Arduino sensors. The workshop was attended by the University of Udine, the delegated of student parents and the head of the Institute.
