The program involves 16 students, mainly A Lyceum and 6 teachers of various scientific specialties so that our actions have a more holistic approach. From the six (6) areas of action offered, we chose the 1st (Energy cities without consumption) and the 3rd (Regeneration of urban space for connecting people in a healthy environment). In this context, three groups of students-teachers will be involved with 5-8 members each with the following proposed actions.
The 1st group will deal with the energy (ecological) footprint of our school and the collaborating partner “Hatzigiorkis Flourmill”. As part of the relevant action, the group has already prepared an information leaflet on the importance of the correct and informed consumer, («Βecome a responsible consumer too») which was given to all students during the intensively consuming period of “Black Friday”.
The 2nd group will collect environmental measurements of gaseous pollutants, from the Scientific station (Labor Inspection Department) on the most commercial road in Paralimni and will compare the changes in the measurements of environmental pollutants in the urban ecosystem during the same period before and during the LOCK DOWN due to the corona-virus pandemic. Simultaneously with the return to normalcy we will study, with a questionnaire, the change in the daily habits of our students regarding diet and exercise. The information will be obtained with the consent and assistance of the parent’s association of our school.
The 3rd group will redesign a green space in the façade garden of our school by placing aromatic and endemic plants. He will seek in to make portable hydroponic gardens with aromatic plants for use on the terraces of houses that do not have a yard. We will try to distribute the hydroponic gardens with the cooperation of the culture laboratory “APOPLOUS” and the parents.
