Hi,
we are pupils of the Primary School in Ledeč nad Sázavou, who are not indifferent to our city. Our aim is to improve waste policy in the city and to suggest possible solutions. We will reach out to the public, city officials and businesses, prove that even children can make a difference. Our motto is, “The City Without Garbage.”

Visit stakeholders for mentoring
We started by deciding what do we want to change and how to do it.
We collected and sorted information about waste, waste sorting and recycling problems from available sources on the Internet. We put the information we found on the project website.
– we found out how local citizens perceive waste issues by means of questionnaires on the topic of waste
– we communicated with citizens on social media
– we contacted municipal officials and waste management companies
– we mapped the terrain, took photos of containers and problem areas
– we created a unique map of containers in our city
– we organised open events for the public

We’re completing the waste questionnaire, monitoring the recycling bins. We approached officials at the City Hall.
We combined the Earth Day celebrations with a town clean-up during the Clean Vysočina event. A Pytlomat, which our pupils made, was prepared for the public. To draw attention to the event, we installed a Litter Trail around the school. Each piece of rubbish was properly described, we gave information about its recycling and how long it takes to decompose in nature. The descriptions were accompanied by QR codes that linked to interesting websites with further information.
Open Action 2
The litter trail was positively evaluated by the public, so we decided to use it for a long-term holiday event in cooperation with Pavlov Rescue Station. We added an interesting quiz about waste sorting to the exhibition.

In cooperation with experts from Charles University in Prague, we have created an interactive map of waste containers in Ledec.

On the map, residents of the city can find where the collection bins for each type of waste are located.

We created a website and a Facebook page for the project to make ourselves known. Not only did we point out the problems with waste in our city, but we also offered citizens interesting information about the issue, shared links to inspiring companies or people who have something to offer. We tried to educate, to discuss.
