The aim of our project is to increase biodiversity around our school as it is located in an urban area. We would also like to make the school more sustainable. We will explain below how we will go about achieving this.
- We would like to plant native Irish trees such as horse chestnut trees to plant on the school grounds. These trees can be planted in our outdoor classroom that we have started to build. The trees will provide homes for local birds and over 8,000 species.
- We would like to plant some bulbs around the entrance of the school to make it more colourful and it will also help the environment as plants produce oxygen.
- We have just purchased a polytunnel and we would like to build some planters in order to grow some vegetables and herbs. These can then be used in Home- Economics lessons for cooking.
- We would like to start a wildflower garden as this would attract pollinators as well as build some bug hotels and bird feeders.
