Wągrowiec – on the way to the city with the good social climate

The PULCHRA project held an online open lecture on January 28, 2021 at 1:30 PM. The topic of the meeting was “Wągrowiec – on the way to the city with a good social climate”. The organizers of the video-conference were students of class 2B from High School No. 1 in Wągrowiec. The event was hosted by Martyna Kołodziejczuk and Kacper Antkowiak, who opened the meeting, introduced the audience to the topic of the lecture and briefly introduced the speakers.

The first guest to take the floor was Mr. Piotr Pałczyński – The Deputy Mayor of the City of Wągrowiec. The topic of the short lesson prepared by The Vice-Mayor was the Vision of the City related to the way the authorities see building a good social climate in Wągrowiec. At the beginning, the completed actions aimed at improving the quality of life in Wągrowiec were presented.These include projects of city bicycles or setting electric car charging stations. You could then see the schedule of activities for 2021/2023 e.g. “Mobile Clerk” to care for seniors and people with disabilities. At the very end of the lesson, implemented actions were mentioned, such as modernization of lighting or subsidizing the costs of replacement of harmful coal stoves.

Then the floor was taken by Mr. Wojciech Cibail – The Head of the Spatial Planning Department of the Municipal Office in Wągrowiec. Using the presentation, Mr. Cibail discussed the planned investments to be implemented in the future years in the area of Wągrowiec. Some of the plans are increasing green areas in the city by creating an ecological corridor at Wiśniowa Street in Wągrowiec. The next important action mentioned in the speech was increasing the resilience of the city to negative phenomena resulting from climate change and adaptation to these changes . The last project is the modernization of the Centre for Ecological Education in Wągrowiec with the extension of the EKO park – Ecological Education Point. Mr. Cibail emphasized that the new projects are to be environmentally friendly.

As the last one, Mr. Maciej Strzelecki – The Manager of the Environment Protection and Waste Management Department of the Municipal Office in Wągrowiec – gave his lesson. The presentation concerned the state of air quality in Wągrowiec and actions taken to improve it. The attendees were shown the negative effects of smog inhalation.

After the speeches there was a turn to ask questions. The discussion was about the issue if the inhabitants of Wągrowiec are willing to use the city bicycles project or the question if there are air quality testing stations in Wągrowiec, if yes, where. There was also mentioned about the involvement of the youth in helping the city.

After the discussion, it was time to say thank you and goodbye to the online lecture participants.
