Our class has chosen the City Challenge “Soil and water”. As part of this overarching theme, I chose the topic “The soil of the school environment”. I am very interested in environmental topics. Soils can be used in different ways. The different types of soils as well as the formation of soils play an important role.
Soils are important components of our environment. The composition of soils is important for agriculture as well as for the various cycles in nature, such as the water cycle.
In studying the soils of the school grounds, the question is what soils are present in the schoolyard and whether they are water-permeable.
Our working hypothesis is that the summer has dried out the surfaces in the schoolyard – The rain in the winter has softened them. Specifically, I will now address the following research question in my project work: What must be the structure of the soil on our school property to address both student desires and sustainability? What qualities does the ground need to have so that students do not have to play in mud, for example?
