In the fall of 2021 we started the next lesson project, which focuses on visualizing, comparing and explaining the temperature data measured in the schoolyard on particularly hot days. The overall goal of the project is to encourage structural changes on our school campus in order to better cope with hot spells in the summer.

Looking for particulary hot days in the summer of 2020, we saw, that the highest measured temperature on our school was on the 8th of August with 39,41° C. Therefore we decided to take a closer look on the temperature develepment on this day at the three different measurement locations on our school yard. They are located at single tree above a paved area, at a fence above grass and at a tree in a small wooded area.
We created diagramms for the measured data, manually and with a spreadsheet program.
The development of the temperature is similar at each location, but the temperature above the paved area is constantly higher than on the other locations. Espacially during the peak in the afternoon it is almost impossible to withstand the heat above a paved area.
Because of this we want to provide more green on our schoolyard. Our next step is to analyse in our biology lesson which plants might be suitable for this project.
