One day in September, students gathered outside in the sun and concluded that it was far too hot to work or concentrate. The glare of the sun made it impossible to work. The students agreed with Ms. Busch to go into the atrium. The cool shade made it easier to work and concentrate. Why was that?
- Guiding Question: How can we avoid overheating our school environment through vegetation?
- Hypothesis: It is less hot under the trees.
During the research, the students addressed the following questions:
- What temperature differences can we observe between “forest” and schoolyard?
- What results can be drawn from a comparison of our weather data for the year 2020/21 with the climate data for the years 1961-1990?
- What places in the school environment are we more likely to avoid on hot days?
- Which land uses/surfaces in the city have particularly warm or particularly cool characteristics?
